Note: Kaolinite is the name associated with the pure crystalline form of the mineral. Kaolin is the name for the industrial clay, which is mostly composed of Kaolinite, but also has other minerals in it.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES:

-- To introduce the idea that physical properties affect what a mineral can be used for economically.
-- To introduce grain size.
-- Introduction of kaolin’s molecular structure (the arrangement of atoms in a mineral), and how it changes when heated.
